The Hunk has the 149 cc engine used in Honda Unicorn and Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme with tumble flow technology which the company claims will reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Karizma has been designed specifically for the Indian market by Honda. The styling is inspired by Honda VFR800. The instrument panel and the tank recesses are also designed keeping their functionality in mind. The horn has come under criticism for not being loud enough
The seating of Karizma is aimed for a sporty stance which can result in discomfort in long distances.Reviews have praised the handling of Karizma as "being easy for novice" ,"impeccable on straights and cornering" and as an "accomplished bike" in ride and handling. However the rear tyre, the handle bar and the foot pegs have been blamed in affecting the handling.Karizma has the tried and tested, but slightly detuned version of 223cc SOHC air-cooled engine from the CRF230 series of enduro /MX/supermoto bikes that are sold in the USA and South American markets. It has a 5-speed gearbox in place of the CRF's 6-speed. The engine is an all aluminum, undersquare engine (bore 65.5 mm and stroke 66.2 mm) running a compression ratio of 9:1. It features a Kehlin CV carburettor with a CCVI switch. The top speed is around 130 km/h and the 0-60 km/h is achieved around 3.8 seconds. The Karizma is reported to have an overall fuel economy of 38 km/l (90 mpg or 2.4 l/100 km), with a best of 50 km/l (120 mpg) and a worst of 28 km/l (66 mpg).
Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme
Hero Honda CBZ, launched in early 1999 by Hero Honda Motors India Ltd, was the first sports oriented 4-stroke bike. Sporting an original Honda 156.8 cc engine, it made good 12.8PS of power which was sufficient enough to propel it to 110[120 on Speedo] km/h. The styling of the bike was a scaled version of the famous Honda CB series. Sufficient mid-range torque ensured a 0–60 km/h (0-37 mph) in just 5 seconds.CBZ was one of the first Indian 4-stroke bikes to feature a 5-speed gearbox
The close-ratio gearbox provided superior acceleration and roll-on capabilities. The gearbox was well sorted to provide best performance out of the peaky power plant which also lacked top-end refinement.
- Hero Honda Achiever
The Hero Honda Achiever is a 149.00 cc, sports tourer bike manufactured in India by Hero Honda. With a power of 13.4 BHP at 8000 rpm, the bike can go up to 110 km/h(68.5 mph). The Achiever production started in 2006.
The Achiever engine is the same 149.1 cc (bore x stroke==57.3 x 57.8 mm) Honda Unicorn engine with a minuscule difference in power. While at 8000 rpm the Unikorn claims 13.3 bhp (=9.9 kW), at the same (8000) rpm, Achiever claims 13.4 bhp (10 kW).
Production of the bike started in early 2006 but had stopped in the same year itself. Now Hero Honda has recently restarted the production of the model, with some graphic variations & also sporting a black alloy wheel.
